Historical research conducted by AEG showed that the property previously contained an underground storage tank (UST), which had leaked #2 fuel oil into the subsurface and that properties down-gradient from the UST had issues with petroleum impacted groundwater. As a result of these findings, AEG recommend a subsurface investigation be completed to identify the conditions of soil and groundwater. The field services were performed in the basement of the building and results showed that the petroleum released from the former tank had extended through the groundwater table to other areas of the property. As a result, AEG prevented the prospective buyer (client) from purchasing and therefore gaining responsibility for the release.
